How Will I Meet This Expectation?
How Did I Meet This Expectation?
Demonstrate ability to evaluate sources of biology information on the internet
I will use credible sources such as .org .gov and .edu.Also i will use websites that specialize in biology. I will also use sources on the credible sources list. Also I will use science databases for information.
I evaluated many of my peers sources, both approving and rejecting their sources. Some of the sources I approved were NASA's official website and the department of Agricultures official website. I also rejected ESPN which was not a Biology website. I also used ScienceDaily.com for two sources and The Telegraph londons top Newspaper which had multiple hyperlinks to reliable sources.
Demonstrate an ability to read and understand current biology news
I will only research topics that i understand. If i dont understand a topic i will research it further using my credible sources skills.
I read up to seven articles on my topic and used three for my post. I asked Ms.Baker questions when I did not understand something. I also looked up terms that I did not understand.
Demonstrate proper use of online resources
when using websites such as Flickr and Google images I will use filters.
I will try to use videos from youtube
I will hyperlink any important words on my pages
I only used sources that were aproved onthe credible sources page.
I used creative commons pictures only.
I hyper linked all my sources.
Publish work that is available for peer-review
I will publish work that can be seen both on the wiki and on the blog
I put my post on my wiki page
I put my sources on the credible sources page
Discuss published work with a practicing biologist in that particular field
I will email scientist who are knowledgable on the subject matter
I will try and have conversations
I emailed Doctor Phil Bishop and asked him a question on my subject. His secretary responded saying that he was not available because he was away doing research.
Provide constructive peer-review to classmates
I will review other peoples work who would like it to be reviewed
I will constintaly review the credible sources page
i will comment on blog post
I was constantly on the credible sources page reviewing my peers sources
Discuss in-class assignments
i will make intelligent comments in class
Survival of the fittest was a major component in our first semester. Ms.Baker told us how most animals go extinct and the frogs are an endangered species.
Apply creativity to work
I will post pictures and videos
I posted pictures and videos about frogs
Have you ever heard of
Chytrid Fungal Disease
? The majority of people out there are going to say what on earth is Chytrid Fungal Disease. Well this is an extremely deadly disease that is responsible for the deaths of million of frogs across six continents. Of the frogs that contract this disease only twenty percent survive. Some activist at
even call this epidemic an ill omen to society. This may sound a little far fetched but when you think about it, it is really is not. Chytrid Fungal Disease is the cause for the extinction of 40 of the 100 extinct frog species. For a long time it was not known how the disease kills the frogs. But in recent research it was found that the chytrid fungus gets on to a frog’s skin and it attacks the keratin in its skin. Once the fungus attacks the keratin it lets out a poisonous gas that kills the frog. This disease is also highly contagious so it doesn’t help that humans transport over 100 million amphibians per year.
Red-legged Frog (Rana aurora) by alumroot.
Testing frogs for the disease is an easy task
all you need is a swab of cotton and you rub it across the body like in the video shown below. Recently scientist in Sydney, Australia discovered a treatment to help reduce the chance of death. The solution is very similar to that of eye drops and eye drops can be used and be equally effective. How to swab a frog for chytrid fungus.

Questions for the readers
1. Why is this disease so widespread?
2. Can this disease be stopped even with the solution that helps the frog heal?
