  • I am in Miss Baker's biology class. I like the fact that we will be doing projects, experiments, and other cool things. The most fun I hope to have in biology is doing experiments. I think we should experiment on dead animals such as frogs, snakes, or even birds. With the projects I think we should research the way animals talk each other. Last but not least, the other cool things are talking journey walks,taking fields trips, and having good conversation with other people. The thing I am not interesting in is doing the blog but, hey someone has to do it. Well I am looking forword to an adventurous year and I hope everyone is too.


The Human Genome Project – Discovering the human blueprint

Scientists have already started calling this project the“ Mount Everest of Modern Technology”. Scientists from around the world are on a mission to discovering the blueprints of the humans entire genetic code instruction. Scientist believe this project is going to be on a whole newer for biologists. Biologists believe that this project will open up doors for the following generations of science.

This project first began in the 1970's when scientists or biologists started to look at humans at a molecular level. As biochemical analysis of DNA ( deoxyribonucleic acid) became possible, it became clear that certain parts of the DNA (called markers) were associated with particular conditions.
Different countries started to pinpoint parts of the human genome in the 1980s but the international project really got started when the USA became involved. In 1989, the Human Genome Organization was founded by the best scientists in the field to direct the massive international effort involved in finding the secrets of our genes.

The idea is for scientists to read every gene on the double helix DNA brand and understand it. The project costs a lot of money and took a lot of technology. It's not just any technology it's called biotechnology. The scientist first part was officially announce in June 2000. Sometime in February 2001 the Human Genome Project and a company called Celara in February 2001, publicly funded Human Genome Project and the private company Celera together announced that they had made a map of the bulk of the human genome. These maps show that there are only about 30,000 gene in the body – a lot fewer than the 100,000 scientist expected announced that they had found the bulk of the human genome.
