Student Expectations
How Will I Meet This Expectation?
How Did I Meet This Expectation?
Demonstrate ability to
evaluate sources of
biology information on
the internet

  • I will include in my post an explanation as to
why my sources are credible
  • In return to my classmates I will give them constructive
criticism by evaluating their web source
Demonstrate an ability
to read and understand
current biology news
  • When I am searching for a credible source for a topic that
interests me,I will make sure that the website is legit and updated.
  • If I do not fully understand the information that i have been given
right away I will find another source and use that to understand better.
  • I followed all the rules to a good website, and also added it to the credible sources page to see if my classmates agreed.

  • My post was based on research done by Baylor College Of Medicine
Demonstrate proper
use of online resources

  • I will only use sources that have .edu, or other reasources that are
not used for getting money
  • I will make sure the sources credible by checking if there is publisher, etc.
  • I put the website I wanted to use on the credible source list and waited until it was approved by my classmates, to use it for my post.
* I made sure that i used a legit website, it is not a money making website it is reasearch done by a college and had an authors name and publish date.
Publish work that is
available for peer-review
  • I will give constructive critizism. Nothing negative.
  • I commented on Miss. Baker's most recent post andlet her know that I think her post was very interesting!
  • I also commented on will's Post " A Need For Play" I answered the questions he had asked at the bottom an also expressed my point of view about the research that had been done. Along with that I also let him know what a great job I thought he had done!
Discuss published work
with a practicing biologist
in that particular field

  • I could make comments on other blog's about biology expanding my knowledge of biology, from other sites.
  • When i commented on Jordan's post I did some research myself. To inhance my knowledge on the post "May I Interest You In A Tic-Tac"
* I made a post about the link of violence and video games. How it impacts our community in a negative way.
Provide constructive
peer-review to
  • I will make postive comments on my peer's work, rather letting them know what they are doing wrong.
  • I let Will know that i didn't find anything wrong with his post, and that everything from the title, the examples, pictures anbd information in his post had me extremely ENTERESTED!
  • * On Jordans's I expressed that i really rnjoyed his post and that I liked how he got creative with his post.
Discuss in-class

  • After class, I will try to research something related to the class work we had done that day.

Apply creativity
to work
  • I will provide pictures, videos, etc. to show my creativity and to make the readers want to learn more about the subject.
  • I used a picture from flickr.com that fit my post
  • I also made a bitstrip commic that related to my post, and added some humor.

What is Chloroplast?
It is a organelle found in some plants.
Chloroplast plays a very important role in optimizing the photosynthesis activity of plant cells. It provides the food for the cell.

Hi, my name is Jenna!
I am normally playing softball, hanging out with friends, and of coarse studying! Okay maybe not the studying so much...

I love listening to music some of my new favorite songs are "Put It On Ya-Plies, Heartless-Kanye West, Circus-Brittany Spears, Arab Money-Busta Rhymes. I could go on forever. Here is one of my favorite music videos...

I have never really been a big fan of science, however this year I look forward to go to class. We learn in many different ways! Miss. Baker has us doing a lot of hands on activities such as the famous cockroach experiment. My favorite teaching technnique she has introduced to us, is the blog project! A lot of people don't enjoy this but i find it to be a lot of fun! I have fun while I am learning while doing this! Here is a link to one of my favorite blog posts by Hope! http://missbakersbiologyclass.com/blog/2008/10/28/gymnastics-a-dangerous-sport/

Video Games Leading to Violence?

Everybody loves video games right? Especially kids! Everywhere you go, you see kids playing there playboy, PSP (Play Station Portable), or Nintendo D.S.! We all love the wii! Although these electronics are guaranteed fun for all ages, have you ever thought of the bad outcomes? A new study shows ids get aggressive after playing video games.
Some researchers say that video games such as ‘shoot’em’up lead to aggressive behavior in the real world. At the same time others say that this is a healthy outlet for kids. Kevin Kieffer and Jessica Nicoll of Saint Leo University in Saint Leo, Florida conducted an extensive review of 17 studies conducted over 20 years. Their results were that there s a link between adolescence and children’s behavior and the games.
The researchers have pointed out that, when children play games that involve kicking or violence, are more likely to be aggressive when playing with other children. Another study showed that when kids play games with hero’s that use fire and weapons, makes adolescence more mean and powerful after playing rather than kids that don’t play the game. Jeanne Funk, professor of clinical psychology at the University of Toledo in Ohio who specializes in video-game research in children thinks this is a problem. She says that the meaning of this is that kids who have played these violent video games are less likely to help children who are need of help. Even though this all has been said, not all research supports this. One study shows that kids that play violent games of kidnapping babies weren’t less sensitive than kids who haven’t played the game.
The real issue is, will there be long term effects of these games? If you think about it a kid who plays these violent games from the age of 10 and keeps playing them is bound to have some kind of side effect right? The only way to really see if this is the case is to do long-term studies watching the kid’s behaviors.

How do you feel about video games relating to violence? What do you think scientists can do to strengthen the support of this? Do you think this is a serious problem?
